Interim Employment in Life Sciences

Companies can now apply “just-in-time talent” to any problem or to fill a sudden gap.

Interim makes it possible to hire the best.

Companies can find precisely the skills needed for a project or corporate transition.

Interim turns talent into a variable cost.

Introducing Ashton Tweed's Life Sciences Practice

As an “Idea” for a Life Science product grows into a company, it goes through a number of predictable phases to bring its products to market. Ashton Tweed’s Life Sciences Practice provides executive talent with the specific experience and knowledge a Life Science company requires to successfully navigate each phase of its growth.

Life Science companies face unique challenges in developing products and shepherding them through a maze of regulatory requirements, clinical trials, and manufacturing needs. Knowing how to meet these challenges is critical to the success of a company developing products in this field.

Philadelphia Home to Dynamic Life Science Cluster

Greater Philadelphia places third behind Boston and the Greater San Francisco metropolitan area on the Milken Institute’s Life Sciences Index, a measure of not only the current strength of these clusters, but their growth potential.

Greater Philadelphia Region Ranks Third in the Nation in New Milken Institute Study

A new study by the Milken Institute announced at BIO 2005, shows that Greater Philadelphia Region is home to one of the most dynamic life science clusters in the U.S.

Philadelphia's hosting of the annual international convention of the Biotechnology Industry Organization sent a clear message that the Greater Philadelphia tri-state region was a leader in the multi-billion dollar life sciences industry. Even though this is well known to the tens of thousands of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware residents who work in the life sciences, many from outside the region had remained unaware of the depth of life sciences enterprise here.

This is not surprising, because the many reports and studies surveying life sciences economies during the past five years focus on just a single aspect of the life sciences. In collaboration with Pennsylvania BIO, the CEO Council for Growth and Price Waterhouse Coopers, BioAdvance engaged the prestigious Milken Institute to conduct a study of the impact of the life sciences in the region, using key definitions to capture the breadth of the industry and the relevant geography.

The study looks at three core sectors: biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and medical devices--which we believe are important as the boundaries between the three are becoming increasingly blurred. The geographic definition of the region includes southeastern Pennsylvania, south central New Jersey, and northern Delaware, reflecting the reality that our life sciences industry operates across state lines.

“The Greater Philadelphia life science cluster ranks among the elite center in the country,” said Ross DeVol, Director of Regional Economics at the Milken Institute and Principal Author of the report. “It is a clear potential source of comparative advantage for the Region’s economy over the long-term, and it ranks among the largest clusters in the country.”

Executive Confidence is Rising

Despite worries on Wall Street about record high oil prices, a monthly survey conducted by ExecuNet reveals executives have become more confident about the employment market's growth during the second half of 2005.

According to the survey of 122 executives, 34% are "confident" or "very confident" the job market will get better during the next six months — up from 20% in May. Forty-three percent (43%) are "somewhat confident" and 23% are "not confident" the employment market will improve during this time.

"The employment market has made a quiet comeback during the last twelve months," says Dave Opton, CEO and Founder of ExecuNet. "As the growth in new job opportunities becomes more apparent, an increasing number of employed executives are starting to explore their options for advancement."
