Ashton Tweed Serves as Gold Sponsor for Schoemaker Golf Classic
On Monday, October 22, Ashton Tweed partners Jim Rudman, James Laird and Jordan Warshafsky participated in the 2nd Annual Hubert J.P. Schoemaker Golf Classic Gala Dinner and Auction. The tournament was sponsored by GlaxoSmithKline in memory of Philadelphia biotech leader and former CEO of Centocor, Hubert Schoemaker. The event included golf, a dinner and a silent and live auction that raised over $300,000 for Melmark.
Melmark, a comprehensive multi-service agency for children and adults with developmental disabilities in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts, is a beneficiary long supported by Hubert Schoemaker as his daughter has resided at Melmark for twenty-five years. Melmark's programs promote independence, self-awareness, and confidence, while offering participants opportunities to make friends and develop personal interests.

Ashton Tweed is pleased to have served as a Gold Sponsor for this year's event. The golf tournament experienced such enthusiastic turn-out that it added a third course, Stonewall in Elverson, PA, this year in addition to last year's returning courses Waynesborough Country Club in Paoli, PA and the White Manor Country Club in Malvern, PA. This year's event featured a total of 210 golfers and 300 dinner attendees.
"Ashton Tweed is thrilled to support the 2nd Annual Hubert Schoemaker Classic. It is heartening to see our local community come together to honor Hubert's legacy and to support the great work of Melmark. We look forward to next year's successful tournament," said Jim Rudman, CEO, Ashton Tweed.

Biotech 2007 Highlights Mid-Atlantic Life Sciences Community
On October 8-9, Ashton Tweed Partners Jordan Warshafsky and James Laird attended the Biotech 2007 conference in Philadelphia. Biotech 2007's goal is to advance the growth and development of the bioscience industry in the Mid-Atlantic region. The conference, with an attendance of over 900 from 330 organizations, facilitated networking opportunities among emerging companies, researchers, large pharmaceutical companies, and support organizations.
The conference, held at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel, included 21 panel discussions, a business development forum, innovation corridor, career fair, and exhibit hall. Biotech 2007 was a great opportunity for Jordan and Jim to meet with senior management of new Pennsylvania Bio member companies. Many of the new contacts we met at the event expressed enthusiastic interest in Ashton Tweed's interim executive program. Interim executives allow companies to immediately address urgent business issues within a clearly defined time frame and turn the company's fixed talent cost into a variable expense. Employing interim executives allows companies to bridge any downtime and gives them access to experts with backgrounds throughout the entire discovery to commercialization continuum.
For more information on the conference, please visit www.biotech2007.org.

BioPortUSA Update
October and November have been extremely busy months for BioPortUSA. We attended the AusBiotech 2007 conference in Brisbane, Australia (October 22 – 24th) and BIO-Europe conference in Hamburg, Germany (Nov 12 – 14th).
Representing BioPortUSA in Australia, Chris Blaxland participated in over 15 partnering meetings at the Ausbiotech conference and held several more meetings in Sydney with companies that were not planning to attend AusBiotech. The meetings were a success and garnered BioPortUSA a new client, a specialist pharmaceutical company established to research, develop and bring to market human therapeutic products to treat chronic respiratory and autoimmune diseases.
BioPortUSA CEO James Laird (2nd from r.) with attendees at BIO Europe
Both James Laird and Chris Blaxland attended BIO Europe in Hamburg. The conference featured over 2000 registered delegates from 1150 participating companies. Jim and Chris met with representatives of 50 companies who expressed interest in entering the U.S. market. BioPortUSA kicked off the conference by co-sponsoring a dinner event with Select Greater Philadelphia and The Science Center.
