President Trump Declares Opioid Crisis a National Emergency
President Trump declared the opioid crisis a national emergency. This follows the release of the White House Opioid Commission’s Interim Report, which recommended the President declare a national emergency, along with other suggestions for action.
The White House Opioid Commission, led by NJ Governor Chris Christie, raised the ideas that the national emergency could enable the Department of Health and Human Services to negotiate lower naloxone prices, rapidly increase treatment capacity, and help release funds from the Public Health Emergency Fund.
