Amazon has quietly launched an exclusive line of over-the-counter health products
Amazon has quietly launched an exclusive line of over-the-counter health products called Basic Care in a possible challenge to pharmacy retail chains. The line includes 60 products ranging from ibuprofen to hair regrowth treatment, and are produced by private-label manufacturer Perrigo.
This doesn’t give Amazon a pathway into selling prescription drugs, but the company is interested in the space and has participated in exploratory talks with generic-drug makers. Amazon announced a partnership with J.P. Morgan and Berkshire Hathaway in January to create a company aimed at reducing health-care costs.
