Alexion to buy biotech firm Syntimmune for up to $1.2 billion

Alexion Pharmaceuticals Inc. will buy privately held biotech Syntimmune for a total price of up to $1.2B, strengthening its rare disease portfolio. This will give Alexion access to Syntimmune’s lead drug candidate SYNT001, which is in clinical development to treat warm autoimmune hemolytic anemia, a rare form of blood disorder.

 

Alexion will make an upfront payment of $400M and additional milestone-dependent payments of up to $800M. This deal follows its acquisition of Wilson Therapeutics for $855M in April.
