Google Life Sciences Hires The Government’s Top Brain Scientist

Thomas R. Insel, director of the National Institute of Mental Health for 13 years, is leaving to join the Google Life Sciences group. Bruce Cuthbert will step in as interim director of the NIMH until a new director is found.

 

Insel wrote that he is joining the Google Life Sciences team to explore how their mission can be applied to mental illness. According to Insel, Google Life Sciences’ exploration into mental health is in itself significant because it recognizes the opportunity for technology to make a major impact for the millions affected.
