J&J, Pfizer, Merck sit atop Fortune’s 500 for pharma
J&J, Pfizer and Merck top Fortune’s 500 for the pharma industry, but large drug wholesalers and pharmacy benefit managers beat them easily.
In 2017’s Fortune 500 list, which identifies companies that have generated the most money during the previous year, J&J placed 35th, leading drugmakers with its $71.9B in revenues. Pfizer placed 54th with $52.8B and Merck placed 69th with $39.8B.
However, these incomes pale in comparison to other healthcare providers and distributors. McKesson ranked 5th with $192B in revenues. UnitedHealth, CVS Health and Express Scripts also made the top 25.
