Outlook for the medical device industry in 2015
The 2015 Medical Device Industry Survey was conducted by Emergo from December 2014 to January 2015, with over 5,400 participants. Based on survey results, the global medical device industry seems stable, but different aspects of the business, such as pricing, regulatory, and reimbursement, have become more challenging.
Major results from the 2015 survey:
- 75% of survey participants are positive about prospects in 2015.
- North/South American and Asian companies are more optimistic than European ones.
- China, Japan, Russia and Brazil’s regulatory compliance has become more difficult.
- Funding/capital is the number one challenge for small companies.
- Pricing pressure and regulatory changes are biggest challenges for large companies.
- Participants expect China and US to perform well in 2015.
- Larger companies saw more modest sales gains than smaller companies in 2014.
- Majority of US companies didn’t make major changes in response to the medical device excise tax.
