Pharma CEOs highest-paid execs in U.S., with biotech in the lead

Biopharma and healthcare CEOs are the highest-paid group on the S&P 500, according to an annual study by Equilar. Biotech chiefs led the way with Regeneron CEO Leonard Schleifer coming in fourth on the list of 341 executives with $47.4M in 2015 compensation. Vertex Pharmaceuticals chief Jeffrey Leiden also ranked highly with $28M, as did Celgene’s Bob Hugin, who brought in $22.4M.

 

Big Pharma executives weren’t far behind. J&J CEO Alex Gorsky was the fifth-highest-paid healthcare exec at $21.1M. Merck & Co.’s Ken Frazier brought in $19.9 million and Abbott Laboratories’ Miles White brought in $19.4M. Gilead Sciences’ John Martin also made the healthcare top 10 with $18.7M.
