INTERIM CMO AIDS IN TRANSITION AND GROWTH

The Client Opportunity

A US-based pharmaceutical company specializing in orphan drug technologies was acquired by two larger companies in quick succession. There had been employee turnover when the second acquisition took place, and they needed to act quickly as they had lost a critical member of their due diligence team. While the company was going through the integration process and permanent hiring was put on hold, it was decided the best option was to bring in a strong interim CMO (Chief Medical Officer). Therefore, the company president turned to Ashton Tweed for their expertise in sourcing and recruiting professionals with a very narrow set of skills.

The position required an MD (Medical Doctor) with clinical development skills who could help identify product opportunity and expand on new ideas. The perfect candidate needed to be familiar with designing clinical trials, product development, and marketing. Most importantly, he or she needed to have a background in a number of diverse therapeutic areas and an ability to develop KOL (Key Opinion Leader) relationships.

Ashton Tweed contacted over 90 candidates and funneled the group down to 3 extremely qualified candidates who were interested in the position. The company was pleased to hire a candidate who not only had the perfect background, but who exceeded their expectations.

The hired candidate was a double-board physician and had an accomplished academic and research career followed by over 20 years in large pharma and biotech/specialty pharma. He’d authored over 40 scientific publications and had the required 505b(2) experience. He was also noted as a valued resource in support of investor relations, business development/alliance management, and KOL cultivation.

The Benefit

The client was extremely satisfied. Due to the volume of changes in their acquired company and the hold on permanent hiring, they needed a candidate as soon as possible. Ashton Tweed was able to complete the entire project from start to finish in just 3 weeks.
