Stanford Medicine researchers, Fitbit, and Scripps Research are launching a new effort to detect early signs of viral infection through data from smartwatches and other wearable devices.

By measuring symptoms such as heart rate and skin temperature, which elevate when someone is fighting an infection, the team hopes to use algorithms to help curb the spread of viral infections like COVID-19.
