Successful managers have verifiable track records for leading and managing successful teams. The better a manager is on the job, the more elevated the team performance and productivity. Superior managers and managers-to-be learn their effective skills in part from other good managers.

Manager Byron Lionel Kohlbusch from Hermann, Missouri is one of these good management role models. He led The Travelers’ Employee Benefits sales team in Knoxville, Tenn. The sales territory included coal mines and logging camps in East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. Under Byron’s leadership, his sales team learned to be creative with what they had, adjusted rules to fit their business environment, gave young employees a chance at the controls, laughed about mistakes, and became a family at work. Byron’s leadership taught his employees how to be successful as individuals and as a team. It was a winning formula for them and the company.
