U.S. startups aim to help seniors ‘age in place’

As more aging Americans prefer to remain home rather than nursing facilities, startups and technology brands are developing technologies to connect them to family and caretakers. Using Bluetooth, these noninvasive devices are able to gather information and send it to family or doctors when, for example, medication is taken or a glucose monitor is used.

According to PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Health Research Institute, at-home options like these will disrupt roughly $64B of traditional U.S. provider revenue in the next 20 years. However, there are challenges. Older consumers may not be ready to use the technology, and safety and privacy risks also exist.
