White House Proposes Name Change for FDA

The Trump administration proposed to change the FDA’s name to the Federal Drug Administration and shift the agency’s food programs to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

 

This reform would move approximately 5,000 full-time equivalent employees and shift $1.3B in funding from the FDA to the USDA.

 

HHS was also proposed a new name — the Department of Health and Public Welfare — and would take over non-commodity nutrition assistance programs from the USDA.
