23andMe, Lundbeck unveil mega investigation of genetics’ role in depression

Lundbeck A/S and 23andMe Inc. are working together on a massive study analyzing the role genetics play in depression. Along with the Milken Institute, they plan to recruit 15,000 patients with major depressive disorder and 10,000 patients with bipolar disorder.

 

Participants will provide DNA through a saliva sample, then complete monthly surveys and cognitive tests on a computer. The study will conclude about 10 months after the final patients are enrolled. Therefore, a readout isn’t expected until 18 months to two years after enrollment ends.
