Husband-and-wife team Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan have given around $50M to fund 47 “CZ Biohub” investigators across U.S. academia. The couple pledged to invest around $3B over the next 10 years into projects designed to “cure, prevent or manage all disease within our children’s lifetime.”

The first wave of investigators come from academic posts at the University of California in Berkeley, Stanford University, and the University of California in San Francisco. Each will get a five-year contract and up to $1.5M in funding to conduct life science research in biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, mathematics and physics. Their research will be made transparent, with investigators ensuring their publications are available through pre-print server.
