How Lilly Is Getting More Women into Leadership Positions

Lilly is tackling the lack of women in leadership roles head-on, and they think their approach can be helpful for other companies to do the same. In 2015, they conducted a workforce analysis that revealed a significant shortage of women in leadership positions at Lilly. But before they could solve the problem, they had to understand it.

 

Lilly engaged an outside firm to conduct an in-depth study of their employees. High-potential women and men in the U.S. were asked highly personal questions with an objective to better understand how the experiences of women working at Lilly differed from those of men. This helped identify and remove barriers to career growth in order to increase the representation of women in leadership.
