In historic first, FDA approves Novartis CAR-T therapy
The FDA approved the first CAR-T therapy, Novartis AG’s Kymriah, on Wednesday. This treatment had remarkable results in children with an aggressive form of leukemia resistant to other drugs.
Kymriah leads the field of cell therapies, which focus on manipulating the body’s immune cells to seek out and destroy cancers. The treatment will cost $475,000 per patient and future CAR-Ts are expected to be priced similarly.
