There were many changes in the pharma industry in 2017 – from the new presidential administration to scrutiny over drug pricing to major scientific advancements like Novartis and Gilead’s first CAR-T approvals and Spark Therapeutics’ gene therapy Luxturna.
Among the top 15 drugmakers in 2016 and 2017, revenue grew slightly to $551B last year—from about $524B in 2016. Most of the Big Pharmas posted growth in 2017, while Pfizer, Gilead, Amgen and AstraZeneca revenues shrank. Next year, you can expect to see Takeda on the list, which is scooping up Shire in a $62B deal.
